Special Events for 2007 and 2008 at Disney World


Throughout the year, Disney World offers special events at their different theme parks.


2007


November-January: Holiday Splendor, Disney World Resort. The resort is decked out for the holidays. Special events include Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom (Nov. 12 – Dec. 21), Candlelight Processional at Epcot, caroling, tree lighting ceremonies, and visits by Santa. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party dates are November 12, 15, 16, 25, 27, 29, 30 and December 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21.

2008
January 2008: Walt Disney World Marathon at Epcot and Disney’s Health and fitness Expo at Wide World of Sports Complex. Registration is open now for marathon events; register early as there are capacity limits. Full Walt Disney World Marathon - Sunday, January 13, 2008. Half Marathon - Saturday, January 12. Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge – Saturday January 12 and Sunday, January 13. Disney’s Family Fun Run 5K – Friday, January 11. Family Fun Run Kids’ Races – Friday, January 11. Disney’s Health and Fitness Expo – January 10-12.

February 29-March 2: ESPN The Weekend, Hollywood Studios. ESPN personalities and legendary athletes will be present for live telecasts, plus sports shows in the ESPN Theater and interactive sports activities. (Included in theme park admission.)

March 18-June 1: International Flower and Garden Festival, Epcot. Blooms and Disney character topiaries grace the park. Gardeners will enjoy seminars, demonstrations and exhibits. Everyone will enjoy a walk through Minnie’s Magnificent Butterfly Garden with hundreds of colorful butterflies. Nightly concerts.

May: Mother’s Day Brunch, Epcot World ShowPlace. Reservations required in addition to Epcot admission.

May: Teddy Bear and Doll Weekend, Epcot. Special event ticket required.

May: Cinco de Mayo, Mexican Pavilion at Epcot. Pleasure Island also celebrates Cinco de Mayo.

May: Minnie Marathon Weekend. Events include a 15K, 5K and a 1 mile.

June: Star Wars Weekends, Hollywood Studios. Meet Star Wars actors and characters. Special events center around the Star Wars theme.

July 4: Special Holiday Fireworks shows at Magic Kingdom, Epcot and MGM. Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island also have holiday celebrations.

August-October: Little Ones Travel Time, Hollywood Studios – special activities at the park for families with preschool children – many live shows with favorite Disney Channel actors.

September 5-7: Disney’s Pin Trading Celebration 2008, Epcot. Special event ticket required in addition to Epcot admission.

September: Nights of Joy, Hollywood Studios. Enjoy Christian contemporary music in an after-hours ticketed event.

September: U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, lake at Downtown Disney.
September: Triathlon, Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Athletes compete in 1.5K swim, 40K bike, and 10K running event. Participants and fans have special room/ticket packages available.

September-November: Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. Sample fine wines and cuisine. This event features guest chefs, culinary demonstrations, seminars, live entertainment, and winemaker dinners.

September - November select dates: Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Magic Kingdom. Enjoy trick-or-treating throughout the park, face painting, a children’s parade.

November 1-4: Annual PGA tournament, Disney’s Magnolia and Palm golf courses.
November: ABC Super Soap Weekend, Hollywood Studios. ABC Daytime stars meet with fans during this popular weekend. Admission to events is included in theme park admission.

November: Festival of the Masters, Downtown Disney. Over 200 award-winning artists display their work throughout Downtown Disney. The three-day festival features chalk artists, House of Blues folk artists, a jazz festival, family activities, and delicious food.

November-January: Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, Hollywood Studios. Millions of sparkling holiday bulbs make a spectacle of lights on backlot. The bulbs are designed by Jennings Osborne as a gift to his daughter and to the guests of Walt Disney World Resort. Dates to be announced.
